Bio-Oil – Is It A Good Solution For Stretch Marks?

in Stretch Marks

Bio-oil is a specialist skincare product that helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone. It is a synthetic product made in a laboratory by Union Swiss. It contains a new ingredient called PurCellin Oil that is in turn another lab made product. It mimics the the properties of the oily substance secreted by the preen glands among birds. Both of these combine to give a highly effective solution for numerous other skin concerns, including aging skin and dehydrated skin.

Bio-Oil helps to increase the elasticity of the skin, thereby the possibility of new stretch marks forming is reduced. Bio-Oil helps to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone caused by hormonal fluctuations, skin-lighteners or excessive sun exposure. Visible as dark patches on the face or body, uneven skin tone often becomes most apparent during pregnancy, menopause or after exposure to high volumes of UV light. Sagging and wrinkled skin commonly associated with aging is largely caused by the weakening of the collagen and elastin support system in the dermis.

Bio-Oil contains numerous ingredients that help to plasticize the skin, making it softer, smoother and more supple, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkled and sagging skin. Bio-Oil also moisturizes, which improves the texture, tone and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Bio-Oil, like the Revitol Stretch Mark Cream helps replenish the skin’s natural oils that have been removed by factors such as:

  • Frequent bathing/cleansing with harsh soaps
  • Excessive perspiration
  • Atmospheric conditions including exposure to the sun and wind
  • Central heating and air conditioning
  • Poor diet and/or insufficient water intake

How To Apply Bio-Oil?

Bio-Oil should be massaged in a circular motion into the scar and surrounding skin, twice daily, for a minimum of 3 months. Younger scars have a greater chance of improvement within a shorter time period, however, older scars will also benefit from the regular use of Bio-Oil. On new scars, Bio-Oil should be applied only once the wound has healed, and should never be used on broken skin.

The application of Bio-Oil is considerably similar to that of Revitol Stretch Mark Cream.

Ingredients in Bio-Oil

Vitamin A

Vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate on the label) helps improve the skin’s elasticity, texture and tone.

Vitamin E

The most widely used antioxidant in skincare products today, Vitamin E increases the moisture content of the epidermis, making the skin softer, smoother and more supple. Vitamin E also assists in the proliferation and maintenance of healthy skin.

Calendula oil

Calendula Officinalis, more commonly referred to as marigold, has been used for centuries as a natural antioxidant and has the ability to clarify and condition the skin, while providing soothing and calming benefits for sensitive skin types.

Lavender oil

Lavender oil is well known for its skin conditioning properties, and is also effective in calming and soothing the skin.

Rosemary oil

Rosemary oil helps to invigorate and condition the skin, and has calming and soothing properties.

Chamomile oil

Chamomile has a calming and soothing effect and is particularly beneficial for sensitive skin. It also helps to condition and clarify the skin, assisting to maintain its natural health.

PurCellin Oil™

PurCellin Oil™ acts as a delivery system for Bio-Oil’s other ingredients, dramatically improving its application and spreadability, and allowing for targeted absorption into the skin.

Bio-Oil is Preservative Free

Bio-Oil contains no preservatives. Microbes (bacteria, fungi and moulds) require the presence of water (or water vapour) and, in most cases, oxygen, to survive and proliferate. Bio-Oil is anhydrous (no water present) making preservatives unnecessary as it is very difficult, if not impossible, for microbes to develop in this environment.
